Primary Ochre Palette

A set of 3 primary colours: Burgundy Red Ochre, Yellow Ochre and the rare Vivanite.

Vivanite, also known as blue ochre, is a rare pigment. This vivanite is sourced from scuba divers in Australia deep within the ocean. Vivianite crystals are often found inside fossil and shells. It's a tabular crystal, transparent like glass, with a deep green color but oxides when ground to a deep blue colour.

Burgundy Red Ochre is from France, Burgundy, near the river Loire where mines used to be. These mines where shut down, in favour of mines in Luberon. This ochre was taken from the last of the stock from Burgandy mines. This ochre is a deeper red then other red ochre.

This Yellow Ochre is from Midelt in Morocco. Yellow Ochre is a mix of natural clay earth pigment which is a mixture of ferric oxide, clay and sand and is one of the most oldest pigments in history.

Colour index: Burgundy Red Ochre - PR 102.7, Vivanite - N/A and Yellow Ochre - PY 43.7. All colours have *** (excellent) lightfastness. Handmade paints work differently from commercial paints, no two are the same. They differ in texture and properties, some watercolours (especially the gem stone like peach agate/garnet/amazonite) tend to sit on the surface of the paper. Each one is hand mulled in micro batches and in multiple layers to ensure each pan is filled. I use my own binder consisting of spring water, kordofan gum arabic, glycerine, local Bedfordshire honey and a bit of clove oil. Each pan is labeled and has a magnet so it stays in place.
*subject to availability. Each palette is made with freshly mulled paint to ensure you get no old paint. Please allow around 5-10 business days (not including holidays or weekends) for this item to ship.
