Hello! My name is Katie. I am a paint maker and artist from Cambridgeshire, UK. Before KWARTSCreations I found myself falling in love with the history of colour during my visit to the National Gallery, London, and saw an exhibition called 'Making Colour'. From rare minerals to crushed insects , the exhibition led me through colour themed rooms, examining the origins of pigment. I started experimenting with basic pigments and metal powders out of curiosity but many colours I wanted was not easily available here in the UK (like Malachite, Opalite, Lapis Lazuli) and the first pigments I used were low quality. So I started to experiment with mineral pigments, trying multiple recipes to achieve the highest quality, with high pigment load and low binder to exhibit the unique properties of the pigment. I use my own binder made from traditional recipes: spring water, gum arabic, glycerine, local honey and a dash of clove oil. Each one is hand mulled in micro batches for 30 minutes to 1 hour and hand poured in layers and slowly cured. I want to share the experience of natures paintbox, making these beautiful pigments available to you.
